Second Honeymoon

The beach is still the same
And so is the bay
With the mountains in the distance
Beneath a perfect sky.

It hasn't changed!

But this time
She's not with him
She's with her friend
Her best friend

Her daughter.

About the same age as she was
All those years ago.

And just as pretty.
Heads turn as they stroll along the sand...

Where did all those years go?

It seems like yesterday
That she walked along here
With him.

And, all too soon
She became a mother
At first
In terraced house
Then a semi
And now she is detached.

Why didn't she leave him sooner?
Why didn't she-

No.

No point dwelling on the past.

All that matters
Is the future.

As noon approaches
They reach the restaurant

It hasn't changed!

She spots the table
The one she remembers
And they take their seats
Beneath the parasol.

This is the moment she's been dreaming of
For years.

Ever since the trouble started
She's wanted to turn the clock back
To when she was last happy

And now, here she is!

But she's in for a shock
Because
In reality
Something has changed.

Try as she might
She can't get the attention
Of the waiters

For they look straight past her
And buzz around

Her daughter.
